Psycho Educational Assessments and Cognitive Testing
An educational assessment is ideal for when parents or teachers are concerned that a child is struggling with certain academic areas, such as reading, spelling or maths, despite having had plenty of support at home and in school. Attainment testing and cognitive assessment are used to identify strengths and weaknesses across a learning profile. Results are interpreted to inform diagnosis of a specific learning difficulty such as Dyslexia, or more global concerns such as Intellectual Disability e.g. M/GLD. Reports are accepted by DES, NCSE, Tusla etc.
Note: As a solo self-employed practitioner some of the more complex referrals may be outside my scope of practice. If this is the case I will signpost you to a more appropriate service for your needs. Assessments are typically scheduled for Tuesday mornings, in person in West Cork.

Primary to Post Primary
Assessment and Transition Planning
When an assessment is completed in early childhood the data is often out of date by the time you are ready to plan for Post Primary. Planning for post primary is a big challenge for many families and up to date data about cognitive capacity, literacy attainment and functional living skill can be very helpful in planning the next step. This assessment involves a review of existing reports, up to date testing and careful transition planning and advice. This type of assessment is best done in late 4th class or 5th class. This gives you plenty time to get paperwork in order, meet with local schools etc.
Attainment testing DARE applications: Current literacy and numeracy attainments statement, where there is already a valid cognitive assessment.
